Feeling Bloated Shortly After Eating?

Updated: Jun 14, 2023

If you are experiencing bloating shortly after eating, you may have low stomach acid. Low stomach acid can cause gas to build up in the stomach.

Low stomach acid can be caused due to a number of reasons including, but not limited to:

  • Antacid drug use

  • Excess sugar and refined foods

  • Constant snacking between meals

  • Excess carbohydrate consumption

  • Excess alcohol consumption

  • Nutrient deficiencies (especially zinc)

What can you do to improve your bloating?

  1. Slow down, chew food thoroughly (15 - 30 times).

  2. Drink warm liquid before meals. For example, warm water with lemon, broth, soup, etc.

  3. Avoid smoking, alcohol, coffee, refined sugars, flours, etc. These all cause digestive stress depleting vitamins, minerals and stomach acid. If you aren’t ready to give up the coffee completely, start your day by eating first, before consuming coffee.
