One of the many reasons I hear that people do not work out and lead a healthy lifestyle is because they don’t have time. Between work, kids, after school activities with kids, meetings, boards, volunteer work, etc., we live in a society that being “busy” is almost looked at like a status.
Well, here’s the thing. Being dedicated to a gym does take time, energy, and commitment to get results. You want to get stronger, improve your energy, feel better, sleep better, improve body composition, and get good results from the doctor? It’s not easy, but it is worth it. It takes hard work. Do you want to be around to chase your grandkids? Do you want to be able to live independently and be mobile as long as possible? Do you want to get off of medications from diseases that are caused from an unhealthy lifestyle? You have one body to take care of. I’m certain you can find the time to commit to your health.
A very well-known strength coach, Bobby Maximus, former coach at Gym Jones, now own his own facility in Salt Lake City, Utah, described our use of time in a week period in his book, Maxiumus Body. Here are some numbers I want you to think about and then tell me you don’t have enough time to take care of your health.
-There are 168 hours in 1 week.
-Let’s say you work 70 hours in 1 week. So...14 hours per day on Monday through Friday.
-You should be sleeping at least 8 hours per night, even though most people rarely get that much sleep. That is 56 hours per week of sleeping.
-Right now, we are at 126 hours used out of possible 168, leaving us with 42 hours left.
-With that time, you have to go to the grocery store, commute to work, and spend time with your family and loved ones.
-Now we are at 10 hours of commuting (2 hours, 5 days a week), 3 hours of weekly food shopping, and 20 hours of quality time with the family.
-Now, we are at 159 hours. This means, we still have 9 hours each week. Take just 5 to 6 of those to work out and take care of your health and you still have some “me time” left.
Try this exercise at home. Start at the top of the page and write 168. Go throughout your week and cross off hours and figure out what you do with your week? How much time are you watching tv? How many hours do you spend socializing and having drinks at happy hour? Social media? You can set a timer to get yourself off of that. What are you wasting your time on? This should be some good insight.
Shouldn’t your health be the focus? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Are you constantly in pain? Does your lower back constantly hurt? This is NOT normal and you shouldn’t be okay feeling like this.
So, isn’t your health worth it? Can’t you commit to 5-6 hours per week of physical activity and working out? I’m pretty sure you can and TIME can’t be an excuse...ever.
